Coalition Zajedno: Socialist Party rally in Belgrade

URGENT: "ZAJEDNO" COALITION PRESS RELEASE

Belgrade, Serbia, December 21. 1996

The ruling Socialist Party of Serbia is planning to organize a rally of support for Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic in Belgrade on Tuesday, December 24.

According to the confidental information which Coalition "Zajedno" received from one of the Senior Officials in the Socialist party of Serbia, Slobodan Milosevic had a meeting with two top ranking officials of the Socialist party - Gorica Gajevic and Mihalj Kertes. Decision has been made to organize big rally of support for Slobodan Milosevic, on Tuesday, December 24. in Belgrade center.

Journalists from CNN and Reuters in Belgrade, have also obtained information on that risky decision, made by Slobodan Milosevic, which can lead to dramatic consequences.

Mrs. Gorica Gajevic said "State has on its disposal some 30.000 passenger buses, and we (Socialist Party) need 10.000; in every bus, we need one group chief, one physician and one watchman".

According to the information, every region has its obligation concerning the number of participants. For example:

Macva region             150 busses  (50 people each)
Branicevo region         100 busses
Pcinj region             150 busses
Toplica region        50-100 busses
Zlatibor region           50 busses
West Backa region         30 busses
From Kosovo region people will be transported by train.
Please, inform public about this hazardous move by the ruling Socialist party.
