[West-Sahara] verdrag sociale zekerheid : Marokko haalt bakzeil

Het sociale verzekeringsverdrag tussen Nederland en Marokko is
ondertekend. Dat heeft langer geduurd dan verwacht omdat Marokko op het
laatste moment als extra eis stelde dat het werkingsgebied ook
West-Sahara zou moeten omvatten, maar dat bleek voor minister Asscher
onbespreekbaar. Er werd gevreesd dat het verdrag in de prullenmand zou
belanden maar zover is het niet gekomen.

In de Engelstalige gezamelijke verklaring staat:

Common statement Morocco-Netherlands
The Convention on Social Security between Morocco and the Netherlands is
not the appropriate venue to address the Sahara issue. The Convention
contains clear and specific commitments relating to social rights of
individuals. Both parties are endeavouring to implement these
commitments objectively and in good faith. This implementation is not –
and should not become – the vector for political stances that are
unrelated to the goals and objectives of the Convention. The Sahara
issue is subject of a negotiation process underway in the framework of
the United Nations. The Netherlands supports the UN efforts to reach a
mutually acceptable political solution to this dispute.
Currently no export of social benefits to the region takes place.
