      POLICE MINISTER GUNNED DOWN

  20  The Serbian Deputy Minister for the Interior, Radovan Stojicic,
      was killed on Thursday night in a Belgrade restaurant. The man
      responsible for Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic's security
      apparatus died instantly when a masked gunman burst into the Mamma
      Mia restaurant shortly after midnight, and sprayed a burst of
  25  machine-gun fire into him. The assailant fled immediately and has
      not been apprehended despite a massive search by police.


      KLEIN: ELECTIONS CRUCIAL

      UNTAES chief Jacques Klein on Friday met Serbian President
      Slobodan Milosevic in Belgrade. After the meeting, Mr Klein said
  30  that this meeting, together with his discussions with Croatian
      President Franjo Tudjman on Thursday, had convinced him that
      Sunday's elections in Eastern Slavonia would be successful.

      Mr Klein said that the President had reiterated his support for
      the elections and called on all those eligible to vote. He also
  35  said that Mr Milosevic had agreed that dual citizenship should be
      available for citizens of Eastern Slavonia, that the region should
      be demilitarised and that soft borders between Croatia and
      Yugoslavia should be established.


      NIN STRIKE OVER

  40  The nineteen striking journalists at weekly news magazine NIN have
      returned to work after forty days. The journalists had been on
      strike because of the suspension of four of their members. The
      strike was called off after the suspended journalists were
      reinstated.


  45  FARRAND AND BILDT IN BRCKO

      The supervisor for Brcko, Robert Farrand, arrived in Brcko on
      Friday with UN High Representative Carl Bildt. He met the mayor of
      Brcko and the presidents of the Muslim and Croatian sectors of the
      municipality.
