    EDUCATION MINISTER: NO WORK, NO PAY

    Serbian Minister of Education, Jovo Todorovic, on Wednesday stated
    that schools of the University of Belgrade which do not start
    working by Monday, will not receive further funding until
    September 30. He said that 50% of the students in Serbia pay the
    full cost of their education, and they will have to pay for
    tuition regardless of the fact that the academic year has been
    lost. Serbian Deputy Prime Minister, Ratko Markovic, said that the
    government's decisions on normalisation of the University was in
    defence of the law. He also said that ``the current situation in
    the University and in the streets is unacceptable,'' and that the
    government would use all measures to normalise the situation.


    VELICKOIVC MOUTHPIECE FOR JUL CHIEF

    Mira Markovic, wife of the Serbian President and leader of the
    extreme left wing YUL party, is behind the Chancellor of Belgrade
    University's decision not to resign according to the Zajedno
    coalition party the Serbian Renewal Movement [SPO.] ``she
    threatens to topple all those deans and professors who resist her
    iron rule in the University and she threatens that students will
    lose this academic year if they continue with the protests,'' says
    a statement from the SPO reported by Beta.


    ZAJEDNO ROUND TABLE

    Zajedno on Wednesday invited all political parties, the President,
    the Prime Minister and the Parliamentary Speaker to discuss
    freedom of the press, the laws governing political funding and
    elections, election monitoring and international election
    monitoring by the OSCE, and the formation of a special court to
    deal with electoral appeals. Zajedno insist that the national
    elections take place at least three months after any agreement is
    negociated at the discussions.


    EU: NO CHANGE YET FOR YUGOSLAVIA

    Diplomatic sources within the EU say that the Union see no reason
    to establish closer relations with Serbia at present, especially
    not financial relations. Any future cooperation remains dependent
    on the full implementation of the OSCE's recommendations and a
    solution to the problems in Kosovo.


    PRISTINA BOMB INJURES FOUR

    Four people, two Serbs and two young Albanian women, were injured
    in an explosion in front of the School of Philosophy in Pristina,
    on Wednesday, FoNet reports. About thirty meters away from the
    site of the explosion police found another five kilograms of
    explosive and deactivated it. At the same time, a box with five
    kilograms of explosive was found in the city of Prizren. The box
    was found by a little girl, who took it home. Fortunately, her
    father recognised the contents and delivered it to the police. It
    is not known who placed the explosive in Pristina and Prizren, and
    the police investigation continues.


    PRISTINA STUDENTS ACCUSE ALBANIANS

    The students' union at Pristina university on Wednesday accused
    Albanians of laying explosives in front of the School of
    Philosophy. Four people were injured in the blast. ``Today's
    explosions in Pristina and Prizren clearly show that the Albanian
    separatists are ready to achieve their aims by any means,'' says a
    statement from the students, FoNet reports.


    MONTENEGRIN CURRENCY WAITING IN THE WINGS

    Montegrin Deputy Prime Minister, Slavko Drljevic, on Wednesday
    said that the new Montenegrin currency ``perper'' did not exist
    yet, but that it would, if another round of hyper-inflation begun.
    In this event, Montenegro would start releasing coupons, as a
    temporary solution.
