Renewal Movement may support Kostunica in second round

CACAK, KRAGUJEVAC, Thursday -- The Serbian Renewal Movement may support Democratic Opposition presidential candidate Vojislav Kostunica if he enters the second round of the presidential elections on September 24, senior party official Ognjen Pribicevic said today. Pribicevic told Spektrum Television in Cacak last night that the Renewal Movement had not had a reciprocal offer from the Democratic Opposition of Serbia.

Renewal Movement president Vuk Draskovic yesterday called for the forming of a joint list of candidates for local government in the key central Serbian city of Kragujevac. Draskovic told a local television station that a list under the name Zajedno for Kragujevac would win in the city because it would represent a local coalition of the Serbian Renewal Movement, the Democratic Party and the Civil Alliance of Serbia. He described the Democratic Opposition of Serbia's decision to dismiss branch officials in the town as senseless, saying that this would not prevent the local party branches from defending their 1996 election victory in coalition with the Renewal Movement local branch.
