Protests against detention of France Press correspondent

Vranje, Tuesday -- Journalists in the southern Serbian town of Vranje protested yesterday against the thirty days' custody imposed on France Press and Belgrade daily Danas correspondent Miroslav Filipovic. Filipovic has been remanded in custody for up to thirty days for the second time in two weeks after being handed to the Nis Military Court on for investigation of charges of espionage and disseminating false information.

Correspondents from a number of domestic and international media companies signed a protest against attacks on Serbian journalists. The president of the Local Press Association, Vranjske novine Editor-in-Chief Vukasin Obradovic called on Serbian journalists, the Independent Association of Serbian Journalists and the Brussels-based International Journalists Federation to condemn the imprisonment of Filipovic and joint the protest. Local Press would assist 24 Serbian weekly publications in organising protest rallies until Filipovic was released, said Obradovic.
