European Union to reconsider sanctions against Yugoslavia

The European Union (EU) may reconsider its sanctions against Yugoslavia. Tarja Halonen, foreign minister of Finland which holds the current EU rotating presidency, said on Friday that the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers to be held in Saariselkae in northern Finland this September will conduct broader discussions on the Yugoslav situation in the wake of the Kosovo war. "We now wish to encourage the democratic process in Yugoslavia and Serbia, and to lift the sanctions may be a way to achieve that," she said.
